Tips for a winter skin care routine
We can all agree that this winter is one of the coldest winters we’ve seen here in Cairo and all we’d like to do is drink hot cocoa, put on our fluffiest socks, and hibernate until the warm weather comes back. But while we do that it’s important to make sure our skin is hydrated and healthy during this long, cold season. Here are a few tips to help in doing that.
- Shower with warm not hot water
Hot water can dissolve the natural oils of the skin which play an important role in protecting the skin from external bacteria. Hot water can also cause inflammation of the skin which can lead to itchiness just like a sunburn. Lukewarm/cold water will tighten the pores and increase blood circulation.
- Follow a daily skincare routine to prevent dryness
Following a daily skincare routine is key to consistency of hydrated skin during this long and dry winter season.
- Exfoliate once a week
Alongside the dehydrated skin comes unwanted dead skin cells. Exfoliating your skin once a week will rid the body of all these dead-weight skin cells, keeping it moist and soft. Try our Dead Sea Salt Scrub in Sweet Strawberry for an extra fragrant experience.
- Apply body butter after shower to let moisture in
You should moisturize your skin as much as possible, but if you can only do it once a day then right after the shower is the best time to do so in order to trap the water particles in your skin leaving it soft and hydrated until your next shower – and repeat.
- Stay hydrated
This is pretty much self-explanatory. Water should be your best friend. Drink water as much as you possibly can as it not only helps keep the skin hydrated and fresh but also helps improve your hair, nails, and boosts metabolism.
- Use natural products and avoid alcohol based ones
Natural products enrich the skin and feed it the natural oils and vitamins it needs, while alcohol based products can be aggressive for most skin types leaving it dry and brittle.
- Care for your feet
Cold feet can lead to chapped skin. Soak your feet in a lukewarm footbath twice a week for 10 minutes before bed. Bonus points for exfoliating them to remove roughness and calluses. Afterwards make sure to dry your feet thoroughly before applying a natural moisturizer like Joviality Foot Balm enriched with Shea Butter & healing Peppermint. Wear socks and sleep, and you’ll wake up to the absolute softest feet!
- Moisturize nails and cuticles to avoid breakage
Everybody wants pretty nails but pretty nails don’t come easy. Moisturizing the nails and cuticles on a daily basis is essential in keeping them strong and long. The Strong ‘N Long Nourishing Nail & Cuticle oil is a blend of powerful oils in an easy to use applicator brush, formulated to do exactly that!
